Algeria Calls for an End to Foreign Interference in Libya, Advocates Reconciliation and UN-backed Electoral Process

ALGIERS- In a meeting on Monday with the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Mr. Abdoulaye Bathily, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, called for an immediate halt to all forms of foreign interference in Libya. The minister emphasized that Libya’s electoral process needs support through a comprehensive reconciliation effort with the active involvement of the African Union.
Mr. Attaf underscored the necessity of establishing a consensus that brings together all Libyan parties within the framework of a national and unifying project, free from divisions. The Algerian Foreign Minister stated that discussions with the UN mission chief provided an opportunity to assess the progress of the political process in Libya, aligning with Algeria’s commitment to supporting such initiatives, as outlined in a ministry statement.
Advocating for National Reconciliation: “Algeria commends the efforts to organize elections in Libya and those aimed at addressing differences through the National Reconciliation Congress. Algeria calls for concentrated efforts to advance these two processes, in addition to maintaining the ceasefire and unifying Libyan institutions,” declared Mr. Attaf.
Renewing Algeria’s Call for an End to Foreign Interference: Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria’s stance against all forms of foreign interference in Libya, insisting on the immediate cessation of interventions that contribute to instability in the neighboring country. He affirmed that the solution to the Libyan crisis will never be military, stating, “Algeria remains steadfast in its policy and positions regarding this crisis affecting the security and stability of a fraternal and neighboring country.”

By advocating for a united and reconciled Libya, free from external influences, Algeria reiterates its dedication to the stability and security of its neighboring nation.
