Algerian FM Attaf Expresses Deep Regret over Inaccurate Statements, Highlights Algeria’s Commitment to Religious Freedom

ALGIERS- In a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf expressed profound regret and contested the false and inaccurate information contained in the recent statement from the U.S. Department of State regarding religious freedom in Algeria.
During the conversation, Minister Attaf conveyed to Secretary Blinken that the said statement overlooked Algeria’s efforts to uphold the principle of freedom of belief and religious practice. He emphasized that this principle is clearly and unambiguously guaranteed by the Algerian Constitution.
Minister Ahmed Attaf further discussed the ongoing dialogue between Algeria and the USA on this matter. He highlighted Algeria’s repeated expressions of willingness to engage with the U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom. The aim is to shed light on the facts and demonstrate Algeria’s genuine commitment to safeguarding the principle of religious freedom in accordance with its international obligations.
