Algeria, China Forge Robust Strategic Partnership: Embracing Historical Ties, Future Collaborations

Algiers, Algeria | July 7th, 2024 — In a pivotal diplomatic gesture, Algeria and the People’s Republic of China have reaffirmed their dedication to cultivating a strong and mutually advantageous strategic partnership. This commitment was underscored during a high-level meeting in Algiers between Mr. Laïd Rebiga, Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders of Algeria, and Mr. Pei Jinjia, Minister of Veterans’ Affairs of China.
The meeting underscored the deeply-rooted historical relations between the two nations, highlighting the efforts of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and President Xi Jinping in advancing a comprehensive strategic alliance. Both ministers emphasized the enduring strength and resilience of bilateral ties, marking a new era in diplomatic collaboration.
Mr. Rebiga emphasized the significance of cultural and historical exchanges between Algeria and China, particularly in scientific research, academic pursuits, historical preservation, and social welfare for Mujahideen and veterans. He praised the pivotal role of Mujahideen in fostering Algerian-Chinese relations, recalling historical cooperation during Algeria’s liberation struggle, including China’s training of Algerian Mujahideen pilots who played a critical role in establishing Algeria’s air force.
Minister Pei Jinjia expressed satisfaction with the fraternal relations between China and Algeria, affirming ongoing cooperation under the strategic guidance of both presidents. He expressed confidence in expanding collaboration across political, economic, and technological spheres, highlighting joint efforts in promoting global peace.
During their visit to Algeria, the Chinese delegation toured key departments within the Ministry of Mujahideen and Martyrs’ Affairs, including the National Cartography Service and archives dedicated to Mujahideen and Chouhada (martyrs), described by Mr. Rebiga as invaluable national treasures reflecting Algerian heritage.
In a symbolic gesture of enduring friendship, both ministers planted a friendship tree at the ministry’s headquarters. Earlier, the Chinese delegation visited the National Center for Studies and Research on People’s Resistance, the National Movement, and the November 1, 1954 Revolution sites.
The visit and discussions reaffirmed Algeria and China’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties through cultural, historical, and strategic cooperation, exemplifying a shared vision for future collaboration and mutual prosperity.
