Partnership to Launch Solar Panel Production Plant, Boosting Renewable Industry and National Integration
Algiers, Algeria | April 21st, 2025 — Algeria is on the brink of launching a major strategic partnership with China in the field of renewable energy, with the upcoming signing of an investment agreement set to revolutionize the domestic production of solar panels. The initiative aligns with Algeria’s long-term national strategy aimed at diversifying and expanding its electricity generation capacity through clean and sustainable sources.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Algerian Ministry of Industry, the Algerian conglomerate “Elec” is scheduled to sign a protocol of agreement with the Chinese giant “LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd.” by the end of this week. The partnership will give rise to a new state-of-the-art industrial unit dedicated to the manufacturing of high-efficiency solar photovoltaic panels in Algeria.
This major step comes amid Algeria’s ambitious drive to achieve energy sovereignty and position itself as a regional hub for renewable energy. The Algerian government, under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership, has intensified efforts to attract foreign investment and promote national integration in strategic sectors, especially renewable energy and green technologies.
On Monday morning, Minister of Industry Sifi Grieb received Mr. Jin James, CEO of LONGi — the world’s leading manufacturer of monocrystalline solar modules. During the meeting, Minister Grieb was briefed on the company’s global expertise, technological capabilities, and its strong interest in contributing to Algeria’s solar energy landscape.
Minister Grieb reaffirmed Algeria’s openness to all foreign investments that serve national development goals, particularly those that create genuine industrial value chains and strengthen local integration. “Algeria welcomes projects that establish a real industrial base and promote national content, especially in sectors critical to our energy and environmental future,” the minister declared.
