ALGIERS– The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali received, on Monday, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Algeria, Mr. Li Jian, with whom he discussed “strategic relations” uniting the two countries, enshrined in high-level political dialogue, said a statement from the lower house of parliament.
Discussions between the two parties focused on strategic relations linking Algeria and China in several areas, and enshrined in high-level political dialogue, the same source said.
This meeting was an opportunity for the Speaker of the APN to recall that “Algeria, under the wise leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is off to a promising start”, highlighting the potential and the great investment opportunities in several sectors.
He also praised “the efforts made by the Chinese side to support Algeria in the construction of several infrastructures”.
At the parliamentary level, Mr. Boughali praised the level of relations between the two countries while reaffirming the importance of this cooperation as a “factor of rapprochement” as well as the encouragement of the tradition of consultation at the international and regional levels, with a view to coordinating and bringing together views on matters of common interest” without omitting the role of parliamentary friendship groups in strengthening these links.
Referring to Algeria’s foreign policy, the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament reaffirmed “Algeria’s position in favor of peace and conflict resolution efforts, its attachment to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs countries, and its appeal to the need to comply with international legality in order to allow peoples to exercise their right to self-determination, led by the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples”.
In the same vein, the Chinese ambassador praised “the progress made by Algeria in terms of improving the business and investment climate”, expressing in this regard “the major interest of economic operators to the establishment of mutually beneficial partnerships with their Algerian counterparts, particularly in view of the opportunities offered within the framework of the investment law which provides for legislative stability and a better vision for foreign investors”.
He also praised Algeria’s “pivotal” role in the Arab-Muslim world, and “its proven leadership in the Mediterranean area and on the African scene”, conveying to Mr. Boughali the congratulations of its Chinese counterpart.
The meeting took place in the presence of the vice-speaker of the APN, Rabah Belkhiri, the president of the Committee of foreign affairs, cooperation and the community, Salim Merah, and the head of the Algeria-China Parliamentary Friendship Group, Saadi Hamsi.
