Algeria condemns “in strongest terms” terrorist attack in Egypt

Algeria has condemned “in the strongest terms” the terrorist attack that targeted a hydraulic pump station in the Suez Canal in the Arab Republic of Egypt on Saturday, killing and injuring several members of the Egyptian armed forces, the ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad said in statement.

In this painful ordeal, adds the same source, Algeria “presents its sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured, expressing its full solidarity with the government and the people of the Arab Republic of Egypt, brother country, and affirms its full support for the efforts of  Egyptian authorities in the fight against terrorism”.

Algeria also renewed “its call for strengthening the counter-terrorism mechanisms at regional and international levels in order to ensure a joint and effective response against this scourge which threatens international peace and security and hinders economic development efforts. “, according to the press release.

Eleven soldiers were killed on Saturday in Egypt in a “terrorist” attack near the Suez Canal in Sinai peninsula in the northeast of the country, the Egyptian army reported.
