ALGIERS- The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, revealed on Tuesday in Jijel that this wilaya has benefited from a project for a seawater desalination station, a solar power plant and several other energy projects of “great importance”.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the inspection of the 60/220/400 kilovolt electrical transformer project in the commune of Ouled Yahia Khedrouche, the minister affirmed that “the wilaya of Jijel is on the rendezvous with the realization several energy projects including a seawater desalination station, a solar power plant, the connection of four municipalities to the gas network and the construction of a kerosene tank at Farhat-Abbas airport”.
“In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during the last Council of Ministers on the construction of a seawater desalination station in all the coastal wilayas, Jijel will benefit from a station which will be located in Achouat and whose study and realization will be ensured by Sonelgaz in collaboration with specialists in the field,” specified the minister, according to the report of the APS agency.
A project for a 100MW solar power plant
Mr. Arkab also mentioned the registration of the project for a solar power plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts, the construction of which will begin after the choice of the 200-hectare site, specifying that the project is part of the a national program including all the wilayas of the country.
He also noted the registration of a connection operation to the natural gas network of the four municipalities of Selma Benziada, Irraguene Souissi, Ouled Rabah and Bordj Tahar, the implementation of which will start as of the next year.
The Minister also announced the construction of a kerosene tank at Farhat Abbas airport in Jijel to ensure the supply of aircraft in better conditions.
Mr. Arkab also affirmed that a feasibility study will be launched by Naftal concerning the project of a fuel storage center for ships on a site adjoining the port of Djendjen, considering that this project could constitute an “important currency source in view of its “strategic” position in the Mediterranean basin.
