Algeria, Egypt, and Oman: Diplomatic Mediation as a Shared Pillar of Regional Stability

Algiers, Algeria | October 31st, 2024 — Upon his return to Algiers following impactful state visits to Egypt and Oman, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has underscored Algeria’s diplomatic stature and unwavering commitment to mediation in the Arab world. In Cairo, discussions with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi reaffirmed Algeria and Egypt’s aligned foreign policy vision, grounded in peaceful resolution and collaboration. In Muscat, President Tebboune and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq signed eight memoranda of understanding across sectors, marking a new era in Algeria-Oman relations. Throughout his meetings, Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s stance on key Arab issues, including Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, and Sudan. Both Egyptian and Omani counterparts echoed Algeria’s perspectives, reinforcing a common agenda rooted in justice and international legality. The closing communiqué in Oman highlighted their shared resolve to enhance cooperation in international forums and support collective Arab action, emphasizing diplomacy as a pathway to secure peace and stability. Algeria’s position as a member of the United Nations Security Council has elevated its role, and Oman acknowledged Algeria’s critical contributions to Arab causes, lauding its constructive leadership in international peace efforts.

Algeria’s foreign policy, predicated on a firm non-interference principle, has positioned it as a trusted mediator, resonating with Oman’s diplomatic neutrality, often likened to that of “the Switzerland of the Gulf.” Egypt, too, shares this vision, making these three nations pivotal peace brokers amid escalating regional tensions. In a region rife with complex conflicts, the alignment of Algeria, Egypt, and Oman signifies a beacon of diplomatic hope, demonstrating a united front for peaceful solutions and paving the way for long-term stability.
