Algiers, Algeria | November 28th, 2024 — In a significant move to deepen bilateral ties, Algeria’s Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, held a meeting on Wednesday with a high-level delegation from the Egyptian construction giant, Arab Contractors. The delegation, led by Vice Chairman El Sayed Abdel Khalek Al Wazer, explored avenues for expanding cooperation between Algeria and Egypt in the fields of energy, mining, and renewable energies, marking a new chapter in the historic partnership between the two nations.
Strengthening Fraternal Ties
The meeting, which was attended by the Egyptian Ambassador to Algeria, Mokhtar Gamil Tawfik Warida, along with senior officials from the Algerian Ministry of Energy, emphasized aligning bilateral efforts with the directives of both nations’ leadership. Building on the outcomes of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s state visit to Egypt in October, the discussions reflected a shared commitment to fostering brotherly ties and mutual growth.
“Algeria and Egypt enjoy exceptional historical relations, and this meeting underscores our mutual determination to elevate our partnership to new heights, particularly in the strategic sectors of energy and mining,” said Arkab during the discussions.
Exploring Joint Projects
The talks centered on identifying specific projects for collaboration, focusing on the expertise of key Algerian entities like Sonatrach, Sonelgaz, and Sonarem. Potential areas of partnership include oil and gas industry development, hydrocarbon infrastructure, electricity generation and distribution, and initiatives to maximize Algeria’s vast mining resources.
Arkab provided the Egyptian delegation with an in-depth overview of ongoing and future projects, highlighting Algeria’s ambitions in renewable energy and the importance of pursuing partnerships based on the “win-win” principle.
“Our vision for joint projects is built on solid economic foundations, mutual interests, and long-term sustainability,” Arkab stated, emphasizing the transformative potential of collaboration in achieving shared goals.
Acknowledging Progress and Historical Ties
The Egyptian delegation expressed admiration for Algeria’s strides in energy and mining and lauded the successes of Egyptian companies such as Petrojet and Elsewedy Electric in Algeria. Ambassador Warida reaffirmed Egypt’s enthusiasm for strengthening economic consultations and knowledge exchange, particularly in areas of renewable energy innovation and sustainable development.
“The relations between Egypt and Algeria are a testament to a shared history of solidarity and ambition. Together, we aim to transform these historical bonds into actionable strategies for progress in our respective sectors,” remarked the ambassador.
A Unified Vision for the Future
Both sides reiterated their resolve to transform the strategic partnership into tangible outcomes that benefit their peoples and enhance their regional and global standing. With a focus on shared expertise and economic integration, the Algeria-Egypt partnership is poised to become a model of cooperation in energy and infrastructure development.
As the discussions concluded, the meeting underscored a unified vision for fostering a prosperous future grounded in collaboration, innovation, and mutual respect—a testament to the enduring ties between two nations united by history and ambition.
