Algeria, Egypt Strengthen Bilateral Ties: A Strategic Partnership in Public Works and Infrastructure Development

Algiers, Algeria | November 27th, 2024 — In a testament to the enduring partnership between Algeria and Egypt, Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Lakhdar Rakhroukh, received Egypt’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mokhtar Gamil Tawfik Warida, along with a delegation from the Egyptian company “Arab Contractors” on Tuesday, November 27, 2024. This meeting, held at the ministry headquarters, came at the ambassador’s request and was attended by central ministry officials and directors general from the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investment Projects (ANESRIF) and the Public Railway Construction Group (GCF).

The discussions align with the outcomes of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s recent visit to Egypt in late October, where both nations emphasized the importance of sharing expertise and fostering collaboration in various sectors, notably infrastructure development.

During the meeting, both parties expressed pride in the deep-rooted historical ties between Algeria and Egypt and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in public works and basic infrastructure. The dialogue assessed the current state of bilateral relations in this domain and explored mechanisms to strengthen and elevate this partnership further.

Minister Rakhroukh highlighted Algeria’s substantial achievements in infrastructure development, particularly in railway construction and guided transportation systems. He outlined the progress achieved under the national investment program for railways, showcasing Algeria’s expertise in executing large-scale projects in these fields.

Ambassador Warida praised Algeria’s advanced experience in realizing major infrastructure projects, with a specific focus on railway network development and guided transportation systems. He conveyed the keen interest of Egyptian companies, particularly “Arab Contractors,” in investing in Algeria’s infrastructure program. Ambassador Warida also proposed the establishment of a consortium of Algerian and Egyptian construction companies to jointly secure contracts and execute projects in infrastructure development both within and beyond the two countries.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to intensify collaborative efforts in the upcoming phase, emphasizing joint investments and partnerships in public works and infrastructure. The parties also agreed on the exchange of expertise and training opportunities, particularly in railway and guided transportation project management. This initiative aims to foster technical capacity through reciprocal visits and cooperative programs between stakeholders from both nations.

The discussions mark a pivotal step in bolstering economic cooperation and reflect a shared vision of progress and mutual benefit, underscoring the capabilities and ambitions of Algeria and Egypt in shaping the region’s infrastructure landscape.
