Algeria Enhances Firefighting Capabilities: Minister Merad Announces Acquisition of 3 Water Bombers

ALGIERS- During a working visit to the Algiers province on Saturday, Minister of Interior Mr. Brahim Merad made an announcement regarding the bolstering of Algeria’s firefighting capabilities. In line with the national plan to combat wildfires, Minister Merad disclosed the acquisition of new water bomber aircraft.
At the event, Minister Merad confirmed the reception of three aircraft, with additional ones expected to be delivered shortly, including an amphibious water bomber of the Beriev 12000 type. He elaborated, stating, “Algeria has chartered these aircraft for two years before acquiring them permanently… These aircraft will enhance the existing resources with the aim of protecting our citizens and our natural assets.”
The decision to invest in new firefighting aircraft underscores the Algerian government’s commitment to proactive disaster management and safeguarding the country’s ecosystems. The acquisition of specialized water bombers represents a strategic move to strengthen the firefighting infrastructure, especially crucial amid rising climate-related challenges.
