ALGIERS- Algeria and Equatorial Guinea have taken significant steps towards fortifying their bilateral relations by announcing plans for the establishment of a joint economic cooperation commission. This development was confirmed in a joint statement released by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both nations.
During a meeting held in Oyala, just before the commencement of the Ministerial Meeting in preparation for the 5th Summit of the Group of Ten of the African Union (AU) on the reform of the United Nations Security Council, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, engaged in discussions with his Equatorial Guinean counterpart, Simeon Oypno Esono Angue. The focus of the talks included exploring opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the fields of energy and education.
In a joint commitment to deepen their ties, both ministers agreed to “consolidate the legal framework of bilateral relations through the upcoming conclusion of an agreement for the creation of a joint economic cooperation commission.” This move signals the intention of both nations to foster closer economic collaboration and create a more structured platform for engagement.
Minister Attaf, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, arrived in Oyala, Equatorial Guinea, on Wednesday to participate in the 5th Summit of the Group of Ten of the AU. The summit, scheduled for Friday, is pivotal for addressing issues related to the reform of the United Nations Security Council, demonstrating the shared commitment of both nations to contribute to the evolution of global governance structures.
