ALGIERS- In a recent visit to the El Tarf province, Minister of Hydraulics Taha Derbal announced on Sunday evening that desalination plants will be supplying inland regions within a radius of 150 km with potable water.
The minister emphasized that the establishment of seawater desalination plants along the coastal strip aims to accelerate the pace of water supply to populations and enhance the security of water provision.
Highlighting the significance of this initiative as a priority international challenge in recent years, Minister Derbal reiterated the need to expedite construction efforts during the holy month of Ramadan. He proposed adopting a continuous work system, operating in shifts of 3 x 8, to meet set objectives.
Inspecting the pipeline installation site between the Koudiat Eddraouche desalination plant, currently under construction in the Berrihane municipality, Minister Derbal commended the progress of ongoing works. He underscored that the companies responsible for these projects possess the necessary human, material, and logistical capabilities to accelerate construction and meet contractual deadlines.
The Koudiat Eddraouche plant, spanning a total area of 11 hectares, is one of the largest desalination units under construction nationwide. It will produce 300,000 m3/day of desalinated water.
Ultimately, the plant will cater to the water needs of residents in El Tarf, Annaba, and Skikda provinces, as well as nine municipalities in the Guelma province.
