Algiers, April 9, 2024 – Algeria’s interest in the technological and industrial development of advanced nations continues to grow as it seeks to invigorate its economy and foster growth across various sectors, particularly in industry.

To achieve this goal, the Algerian government is increasing engagements with economic partners to strengthen high-level strategic cooperation. Algeria, having made significant progress in improving its business climate, aims to attract foreign investors to establish fruitful economic partnerships with Algerian counterparts, fostering a model based on diversification, common interests, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

In line with this vision, Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui received the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Algeria, Elisabeth Volbers, at the government palace yesterday. Discussions primarily focused on enhancing economic partnership between the two countries, especially in industrial sectors, as per a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.

Strengthening Partnership with Germany

The economic partnership between Algeria and Germany, particularly in the industrial domain, is set to be bolstered by closer collaboration between the two countries’ operators. Minister of Industry Ali Aoun, who visited Berlin last March for the annual forum of the German Federal Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, met with the Director-General of the German-African Business Association, Afrika-Verein, which focuses on economic cooperation between Germany and Africa.

During the meeting, areas for potential industrial projects between Algeria and Germany were identified for short-term implementation. These include manufacturing, automotive spare parts, textiles, clothing, and pharmaceutical production. It was agreed to develop a short-term action plan to bring together economic operators from both countries, aiming to establish partnerships for the launch of several projects in Algeria’s industrial sector.

Expanding Partnership Areas with South Korea

In a similar drive for economic partnership in the industrial domain, Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production Ali Aoun met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Algeria, You Ki Jun, to review cooperation between Algeria and South Korea, particularly in industry and pharmaceutical production, according to a statement from the ministry.

The meeting also emphasized the need to strengthen economic cooperation by expanding partnership areas to include all sectors of industry and its various branches. While commending South Korea’s technological development, Minister Aoun underscored the importance of cooperation in numerous industrial domains, such as automotive, electronics, and home appliances, to develop these sectors in Algeria and facilitate technology transfer.

The South Korean ambassador highlighted Algeria’s significant role in the African region, considering it “a gateway for export and investment.”

Overall, Algeria is experiencing a surge in foreign partnership and cooperation, supported by state initiatives and mechanisms to attract foreign investors. Removing obstacles and implementing concrete measures to encourage foreign companies, especially in industrial sectors, aims to make Algeria an indispensable opportunity for leading countries in industry and high technology.
