Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – October 23, 2023- Algeria, during an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), took a resolute stance against the ongoing aggression of the Zionist entity towards the Palestinian people. The country reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the urgent need for international intervention and a just resolution to the conflict.
At the open-ended Executive Committee meeting of foreign ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Algerian delegates made their position clear, denouncing the atrocities committed by the Zionist entity against the civilian population in Palestine. They specifically condemned the barbaric attacks deliberately carried out against health infrastructure in Gaza, which flagrantly violated international humanitarian law and were committed in plain view of the international community.
Algeria strongly emphasized that the denial of the historic and legitimate right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, remains the root cause of the ongoing crisis. The delegation underscored the destabilizing consequences this crisis could have on the entire region.
In light of these grave circumstances, Algeria called upon the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to take responsibility and put an end to the aggression perpetrated by the occupying force. They urged the global community to address this issue seriously, highlighting the complicit support provided by certain nations to the aggressor.
Furthermore, Algeria urged OIC member states to unite their efforts and make the Palestinian cause a top priority on the international agenda. They stressed that this cause lies at the heart of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s mission.
Recognizing the urgent need for humanitarian aid, the Algerian delegation called for an immediate response, facilitated through international and regional organizations, to assist the Palestinian population enduring ongoing violations and hardships.
The extraordinary ministerial meeting was an opportunity for the Algerian delegation to reiterate the personal and unwavering commitment of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the just Palestinian cause, a top priority for Algerian diplomacy.
Despite the collective efforts to address the crisis, Algeria expressed reservations regarding a paragraph in the final declaration that equated the occupier and the victims of these criminal acts. Algeria firmly believes that such an approach does not accurately represent the situation and the responsibility of the parties involved.
