ALGIERS- In the wake of the catastrophic floods that have ravaged numerous towns in northeastern Libya, Algeria has stepped forward to express its heartfelt condolences and unwavering support to the Libyan government and its resilient people.

A press release issued by Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday conveyed the nation’s deep condolences and sincere sympathy for Libya’s ordeal. Algeria, a neighboring nation with strong ties to Libya, reaffirmed its commitment to standing by its brethren during this difficult time, stating, “Algeria presents its sincere condolences to the government and the Libyan people, assuring its compassion and solidarity with them following this tragedy.”

Furthermore, Algeria pledged its readiness to provide essential aid to alleviate the suffering of the flood victims in Libya, underlining its commitment to assisting in the recovery efforts.

The Libyan Government of National Unity, in response to the devastating floods, officially declared the affected municipalities in the east of the country as “disaster areas.” This declaration came as part of a comprehensive effort to address the immediate and long-term repercussions of the disaster.

The Libyan government has issued clear directives to all its ministries, agencies, relief teams, and hospitals to take urgent and extraordinary measures to respond effectively to the aftermath of the floods. Precise monitoring of the situation in the eastern region, now classified as a “disaster zone,” has been initiated to ensure a swift and organized response.

The United Nations mission in Libya has also taken a keen interest in the emergency situation in the eastern part of the country. In an official press release, the UN expressed its willingness to provide support to those affected by the disaster, reaffirming its commitment to aiding the Libyan people during their time of need.

Initial reports on Monday indicated that at least 150 lives have been tragically lost due to the torrential rains and subsequent flooding in Libya. The Mediterranean storm, known as “Daniel,” swept through several regions in eastern Libya, including the cities of Benghazi, Al-Bayda, and Al-Marj, as well as Sousse and Derna, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The storm inflicted significant damage to critical infrastructure and private property, compounding the challenges faced by the affected communities.

As the Libyan people grapple with the devastation brought about by these catastrophic floods, the international community, exemplified by Algeria and the United Nations, stands ready to offer support, resources, and solidarity. The collaborative response underscores the importance of unity and humanitarian efforts during times of crisis, as nations come together to aid their neighbors in the face of adversity.

In this trying moment, the bonds between Algeria and Libya grow stronger, serving as a testament to the enduring spirit of solidarity among nations in the face of natural disasters and adversity.
