ALGIERS-  The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, recently met with the Vice-Chancellor and German Minister of Economy and Climate, Mr. Robert Habeck, in a significant diplomatic effort to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries. The meeting focused on exploring economic partnerships and discussing the development of renewable energy initiatives, with a particular emphasis on the production of green hydrogen.

One of the key highlights of the meeting was the appreciation expressed by Mr. Attaf for the signing of an agreement between Germany, Austria, and Italy, which solidified the ambitious SoutH2 Corridor project. This collaborative effort aims to construct a gas pipeline that will facilitate the transportation of green hydrogen from Algeria to Europe. The agreement signifies a significant milestone in the region’s collective pursuit of sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions.

Recognizing the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration, the two parties agreed to organize a meeting of experts in Algeria in October. This meeting will serve as a precursor to the next joint economic committee summit, providing an opportunity to delve deeper into potential collaborations and exchange valuable insights on various economic matters.

Moreover, during the meeting, Mr. Attaf extended an official invitation to Mr. Habeck, inviting him to visit Algeria in the near future. The planned visit, scheduled for the upcoming year, will further strengthen diplomatic ties and create a conducive environment for increased cooperation between the two nations. High-level visits such as these foster direct engagement, enabling officials to gain a deeper understanding of each other’s priorities and explore avenues for trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

Algeria, with its abundant renewable energy resources, is keen on developing its green hydrogen production capabilities and leveraging them for both domestic and international purposes. The partnership with Germany, a leader in renewable energy technologies and sustainability, offers a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange and technological cooperation. By collaborating on renewable energy initiatives, both countries can contribute to the global efforts to mitigate climate change and transition towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Germany, on the other hand, can benefit from Algeria’s vast renewable energy potential, particularly in the production of green hydrogen. As a country committed to reducing its carbon footprint and transitioning to cleaner energy sources, Germany’s partnership with Algeria aligns with its long-term sustainability goals. The availability of a stable and environmentally friendly energy supply from Algeria can support Germany’s transition away from fossil fuels and contribute to its energy security.
