Algiers, Algeria | January 15th, 2025 — Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui chaired a government meeting on Wednesday in Algiers, focusing on essential national sectors, including forest management, water security, medical equipment regulation, and vocational training reform, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting addressed Algeria’s regulatory framework for the national inventory of forest resources, alongside various development, planning, and management strategies aimed at ensuring the sustainable preservation and optimal use of the country’s forest wealth. These measures are in line with the provisions of Law 23-21 concerning forests and forest resources, underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding Algeria’s ecological heritage.

A significant part of the session was dedicated to reviewing the results of the National Conference on Vocational Training Reform. The conference aimed to establish a comprehensive sectoral roadmap for structural and ambitious reforms. The proposed framework seeks to modernize the vocational training system, enhance its attractiveness, and position it as a cornerstone of national development by aligning educational outcomes with the evolving socio-economic demands of the nation.

In the water sector, the government evaluated progress on critical water infrastructure projects aligned with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives to bolster water security and improve wastewater reuse rates for agricultural and industrial purposes. Key projects under review included the supply of drinking water to the populations of Béchar, Abadla, and Kenadsa from the El Guetrani groundwater basin, located in the commune of Beni Ounif. Additionally, the construction of wastewater treatment plants in the city of Béchar and the new city of Bouinan, Blida, was assessed as part of ongoing efforts to modernize the water management infrastructure.

Furthermore, the government explored enhancements to the regulatory framework governing the approval of medical devices. The proposed adjustments aim to grant the designated regulatory body greater flexibility while ensuring strict adherence to scientific and international standards in the approval process, thus facilitating the availability of essential medical technologies within the Algerian healthcare system.

The government reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable development, resource preservation, and the modernization of key sectors to drive national progress and socio-economic resilience.
