Algeria Honors a Proud Past, Showcasing Strength and Future Vision on the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation War

Algiers, Algeria | November 01st, 2024 — Algeria celebrated the 70th anniversary of the beginning of its War of Independence with an impressive military parade on Friday, an event underscoring both national pride and a commitment to a sovereign future. The NR 11 avenue, set against the grandeur of the Great Mosque of Algiers, hosted a parade of military power that displayed Algeria’s state-of-the-art weaponry, troops, and technological prowess. Among the honored guests were heads of state from Tunisia, Mauritania, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Libya’s Presidential Council president, as well as other dignitaries from allied and friendly nations. High-ranking state officials, government representatives, and figures from Algeria’s revolutionary heritage and diplomatic circles also graced the event, which exuded an atmosphere of unity and resolve.

A Display of Algeria’s Unmatched Military Strength

With the thunderous salute of 70 cannon blasts and a solemn anthem of military music, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria’s Commander-in-Chief, accompanied by General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), inspected formations of ANP units before inaugurating the parade. Representing Algeria’s strength, legacy, and advanced military capabilities, each participating unit—from cavalry to National Security forces and Civil Protection units—demonstrated precision and discipline. The ANP, alongside national police, customs, and civil defense, displayed a cohesive and coordinated image of Algeria’s defense apparatus.

The parade began with an aerial display that painted the capital’s skies with the colors of Algeria’s flag. Fighter jets, helicopters, and reconnaissance aircraft exhibited advanced maneuvers, symbolizing Algeria’s technical mastery and readiness. The air performance included strategic flyovers by Algerian Sukhoi 30 aircraft, showing off their agility and marking a powerful representation of national air superiority. These displays highlighted Algeria’s commitment to defending its airspace and sovereign territory in accordance with its principles and international obligations.

Strength and Unity at the Core of Algeria’s Military Doctrine

The parade showcased Algeria’s defensive strength, reinforcing the unity and stability that define the country. Skilled pilots and specialized forces maneuvered in a series of complex formations, with smoke trailing in green, white, and red, merging to form the Algerian flag, a vivid image of pride and resilience. The air display included an homage to the martyr Didouche Mourad, with tactical troop deployment operations reflecting the army’s capability to mobilize quickly in the defense of Algerian interests.

Continuing the presentation of Algeria’s advanced defense technology, three transport planes known for their utility in aerial communication and reconnaissance took flight, while an accompanying squadron of Sukhoi 30s performed an exemplary stabilization maneuver. This demonstration emphasized the strategic capabilities of Algeria’s forces and their readiness to undertake diverse missions under challenging conditions.

The ground segment of the parade displayed an elite division from the Marine Corps School of Ali Ben Nour, with soldiers walking in steadfast formation, signifying rigorous training and commitment. Special units from the National Gendarmerie followed, bringing forth Algeria’s elite crisis-response forces, skilled in counter-terrorism and equipped to handle the complexities of organized crime and other security threats. The Algerian police, equally represented, showcased their top-tier equipment, signaling a high level of operational preparedness. These forces collectively illustrated Algeria’s robust national defense and were a stark reminder of the sacrifices made for independence and the ongoing dedication to protecting that hard-won sovereignty.

As helicopters and aircraft executed coordinated flight maneuvers overhead, the event underlined the technological prowess and defensive capacity of Algeria’s military, a message that its borders remain impenetrable and its peace undisturbed.

This milestone celebration served as an unambiguous assertion of Algeria’s military strength, conveying a solemn yet resolute message: Algeria, a country that sacrificed much for independence, remains steadfast in its defense of sovereignty and territorial integrity. President Tebboune emphasized the defensive doctrine guiding the ANP, inheriting the principles of the National Liberation Army (ALN). “Our military strategy remains defensive, solely committed to the preservation of Algeria’s sovereignty and in pursuit of global peace and stability, in accordance with international law and Algeria’s constitutional values,” Tebboune affirmed in his address.

Through meticulous demonstrations of formation and drill, the parade exhibited the high caliber of Algeria’s military training and its focus on unity and precision. Displayed to the public were Algeria’s latest acquisitions, including the Iskander-E ballistic missile system, marking a significant step in the country’s strategic defense capability. Complemented by drone and missile-equipped submarine deployments, Algeria’s military positioning underscores its growing role as a regional power in the Western Mediterranean.

This grand commemoration also paid tribute to the martyrs of Algeria’s Liberation, a reminder of the valor that paved the way for independence and sovereignty. Through this gathering, Algeria not only honored its past but also made a promise to future generations—a promise to protect the nation’s independence and continue to build a future marked by security, resilience, and unity.

Algeria, which once triumphed over colonialism, continues its victorious path with confidence, thanks to the loyalty of its sons and daughters who remain true to the covenant of our noble martyrs.

On this 70th anniversary of the glorious Liberation Revolution, I extend heartfelt gratitude to the People’s National Army and all security forces who stand vigil on our borders to defend our pure land, safeguard our skies and shores, and are prepared to sacrifice everything to honor the legacy of our martyrs, protect the Republic, and preserve its achievements.

Today, we ensured that this military parade reflects both the depth and symbolism of this landmark anniversary, commemorating the sacrifices of its heroes. It embodies the sacred bond between our people and their daughters and sons in the National People’s Army, who work with high patriotism and unwavering dedication.

I must underscore here the defensive doctrine of our People’s National Army, with its weapons solely devoted to protecting Algeria and safeguarding its sovereignty. This commitment aligns with our international and regional obligations, in respect of international law, and within the framework of our principles and constitutional guidelines to contribute to international peace and security.

Despite the current economic and security challenges facing the world, we continue on the path of building the New Algeria and achieving progress. We are launching promising development projects, thanks to the efforts of all loyal citizens who believe in our nation’s potential to advance and to fulfill our people’s aspirations for a life of dignity within the embrace of peace and stability.

In closing, I bow in reverence to honor the souls of our noble martyrs—all of them—the martyrs of popular resistance, the victorious Liberation Revolution, and the martyrs of national duty.
