Algiers, Algeria | June 16th, 2024 — During the G7 Summit held in the Italian city of Bari, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria oversaw the signing of a strategic agreement with Italy. This significant milestone was announced in a statement by the Algerian presidency.
The agreement, framed within the Mattei Africa Foundation, outlines a collaboration period from 2024 to 2028. This partnership aims to launch a substantial project in the Timimoun region, focusing on the production of cereals and legumes, as well as the development of food industries.
According to the presidential statement, the project’s objectives are twofold: to enhance and capitalize on the longstanding historical bilateral relations between Algeria and Italy at all levels, and to accelerate the national economic process towards achieving self-sufficiency.
This initiative is expected to not only strengthen the agricultural sector in Algeria but also stimulate economic growth and foster technological and industrial advancements. By leveraging the expertise and resources of both nations, the project aims to create a sustainable and prosperous future, reinforcing the strategic alliance between Algeria and Italy.
