Algiers, Algeria | May 28, 2024 — The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Mr. Ali Aoun, welcomed, today in Algiers, a delegation from the Stellantis automotive group, led by Mr. Samir Cherfan, Director of Operations for Africa and the MENA region.
According to a statement from the ministry, the meeting facilitated discussions on the current state of the Fiat factory in Oran and the latest developments in the automotive industry. The ministry provided a detailed presentation on the progress of the project. Currently, the Fiat factory is advancing in the production of Fiat 500 and Fiat Doblo models. The production capacity is set to increase, aiming to produce 40,000 vehicles by the end of 2024 and reaching 90,000 by 2026.
Another key aspect of the meeting was the implementation of supply contracts with suppliers to boost the integration rate of local components. Mr. Cherfan highlighted that this integration rate is projected to exceed 35% by 2026.
This ambitious plan underscores Algeria’s commitment to developing a robust automotive industry, reducing reliance on imports, and enhancing local production capabilities. Increasing production capacity and the integration rate represents a strategic move to strengthen the local economy, create jobs, and establish Algeria as a significant player in the regional automotive sector.
