Algiers, Algeria | January 23rd, 2025 — Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and strategic cooperation in energy, mining, and renewable energy during a high-level meeting held at the Ministry of Energy and Mines. Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, welcomed Omani Ambassador Saif Rashid Al-Badaei and Saad Suhail Bahwan, a key shareholder in the Suhail Bahwan Group, accompanied by senior officials from the ministry and representatives of Sonatrach.
The meeting followed up on the outcomes of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s visit to Oman from October 28 to 30, 2024, where the two nations emphasized their shared determination to enhance collaboration in critical sectors.
During the discussions, both parties lauded the strong fraternal ties between Algeria and Oman, emphasizing their mutual interests in advancing cooperation in hydrocarbons, petrochemicals, and renewable energy. The dialogue specifically highlighted existing partnerships between Algeria’s energy giant Sonatrach and the Suhail Bahwan Group, particularly in fertilizer production projects such as ammonia and urea.
A focal point of the talks was the strategic expansion of the fertilizer plant in Arzew, Oran Province, and the exploration of new investment opportunities in Algeria. The discussions included Algeria’s recent regulatory reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment, with Minister Arkab highlighting the favorable legal and institutional framework introduced to foster strategic partnerships.
The meeting also explored broader areas of investment in Algeria’s mining sector and renewable energy projects. Minister Arkab presented Algeria’s ambitions for sustainable development through diversification in green energy initiatives and mining exploitation, signaling the country’s openness to partnerships with Omani enterprises.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reiterated their shared vision to further enhance bilateral relations, underscoring the importance of mutual investments and joint ventures in driving sustainable economic growth. The gathering symbolized Algeria and Oman’s commitment to fostering enduring economic ties rooted in shared values and strategic cooperation.
