Algiers, Algeria | October 28th, 2024 — Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman are united by profound, deeply rooted relations characterized by a steadfast commitment to enhancing and intensifying bilateral cooperation. These ties, distinguished by a convergence of perspectives on Arab, regional, and international issues, are poised for further consolidation with the state visit of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Oman starting this Monday. During this visit, President Tebboune will engage in discussions with Sultan Haitham ben Tariq on regional and international matters, including the critical Palestinian issue, alongside other facets of bilateral cooperation.

Strengthening and Promoting Close Bonds of Fraternity

This visit represents a pivotal opportunity to reinforce and promote the close ties of fraternity, historical friendship, and understanding that unite the two nations, reflecting the aspirations of their brotherly peoples. It will also allow for the identification of new priority areas for cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest. Key topics on the agenda will include joint opportunities in investment, energy, mining, food security, Saharan agriculture, and the establishment of collaborative projects in numerous other fields.

The leadership of both countries maintains constant coordination and ongoing dialogue on all matters, particularly concerning developments in the region and international arena. This underscores a long-standing tradition of political consultation at all levels, aimed at serving their mutual interests and those of the Arab-Islamic nation. In this context, President Tebboune conveyed a message to His Majesty Sultan Haitham ben Tariq last May, extending fraternal greetings and best wishes for progress and development to Oman and its people, delivered by Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf.

In May, President Tebboune also welcomed Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, who brought a message from his brother Sultan Haitham ben Tariq. Following his re-election for a second term, President Tebboune received a congratulatory message from Sultan Haitham, expressing sincere wishes for success and prosperity for the Algerian people, as well as a commitment to advancing relations between the two countries.

A High-Level Political Coordination

In recent months, Algerian-Omani relations have gained momentum, marked by mutual visits and contacts among officials across various institutions and sectors in both countries. This has facilitated a comprehensive assessment of bilateral cooperation and an exploration of avenues for promotion across diverse fields.

Several meetings have also taken place between representatives from businesses and groups, as well as public and private sector entrepreneurs from both nations. These engagements have unearthed promising investment opportunities across multiple sectors. The eighth session of the Algerian-Omani Joint Commission, held in June in Algiers, highlighted the shared vision of the two countries in facing various regional and international challenges.

In this regard, the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Algeria, Saif Bin Nasser Bin Rashid Al-Badaai, emphasized in a statement to the Oman News Agency that the two nations share deeply ingrained relations marked by a high level of political coordination, particularly concerning Arab causes and global peace initiatives. He described President Tebboune’s state visit to Oman as “historic,” aiming to “strengthen bilateral relations and open broad perspectives in line with the leaders’ commitment to promoting their partnership.”

As Algeria and Oman stand at the threshold of a new era in their diplomatic relations, this state visit symbolizes their mutual dedication to fostering collaboration in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, ensuring that their partnership remains resilient and adaptive to the challenges that lie ahead.
