ALGIERS- President Abdelmadjid Tebboune addressed the upcoming early presidential election, scheduled for September 7th, during his meeting with representatives broadcasted on Saturday.
President Tebboune asserted that the decision to advance the presidential elections to September 7th was made for purely technical reasons. He explained that December is not traditionally the optimal month for holding presidential elections, referencing the context in which the 2019 presidential election was organized.
Furthermore, President Tebboune unequivocally dismissed any notion that the advancement of the electoral schedule was a response to internal political crises. He emphasized that such claims are baseless propaganda aimed at misleading the public.
The president further explained that September is a more suitable timeframe for the elections, as citizens will be fully prepared to cast their votes. He noted that September aligns with the beginning of the social engagement period, creating a conducive environment for positive and participatory elections.
When asked about his potential candidacy for a second term, President Tebboune emphasized that it is not yet the appropriate time to discuss such matters. He highlighted that he still has five months of work ahead and a scheduled program of field visits to various provinces to fulfill before considering any electoral candidacy.
President Tebboune’s explanation lays the groundwork for a transparent and inclusive electoral process, fostering confidence and trust in the integrity of Algeria’s democratic institutions.
