Algiers, Algeria | May 30, 2024 — In a significant initiative to bolster infrastructure and stimulate economic growth in the region, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune inaugurated two pivotal projects during his working and inspection visit to Khenchela on Thursday. He was accompanied by senior officials, including General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army (ANP), and several government members, highlighting the importance of these projects for local communities.
Inauguration of the Khenchela-Aïn Beïda Railway Line
The newly inaugurated railway line linking Khenchela to Aïn Beïda in Oum El Bouaghi spans 51 kilometers. Constructed by renowned national companies, this project aims to enhance transportation efficiency and regional connectivity.
During the inauguration, President Tebboune received detailed briefings on the project’s execution. The railway line is expected to significantly improve the movement of goods and passengers, thereby contributing to the region’s economic vitality.
Launch of the N88 Road Expansion Project
In addition to the railway line, President Tebboune inaugurated the expansion of the N88 road, which connects Khenchela with Batna. Covering a 14-kilometer stretch, this project is a strategic upgrade for regional transportation.
The inauguration ceremony saw the attendance of key government officials, including Brahim Merad, Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Regional Planning, and Lakhdar Rakhroukh, Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure. Initiated at the end of 2021 with a budget of 2 billion Dinars, the project involved three national companies that overcame various challenges during its construction.

The expansion of the N88 road is crucial for Khenchela’s residents, offering a faster route to Batna and subsequently to the East-West Highway. This improvement is anticipated to boost economic activity, enhance regional development, and facilitate better mobility for citizens.
These infrastructure projects are part of a broader strategy to promote economic growth and improve living standards in Khenchela and surrounding areas. By investing in transportation and connectivity, the Algerian government aims to create a more dynamic and accessible environment for its citizens.
