Algiers, Algeria | October 23rd, 2024 — Tayeb Zitouni, Algeria’s Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, presided over the opening of the Algerian-Qatari Business Forum on Wednesday in Doha, Qatar. The event, held on the sidelines of the ongoing Algerian Product Exhibition running from October 22 to 26 in the Qatari capital, aims to enhance bilateral trade and promote strategic partnerships across multiple sectors, according to a statement released by the ministry.

The forum’s inauguration was attended by representatives from the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), Charaf Eddine Amara, President of the National Union of Public Entrepreneurs (UNEP), Hocine Zaoui, Acting Head of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI), and Samir Deradji, Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce.

In his opening address, Minister Zitouni emphasized that this forum marks a “new chapter toward a strategic partnership” encompassing multiple sectors. The initiative is being supported by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, reflecting the close and growing relations between the two nations. The minister also expressed his gratitude to the State of Qatar for its warm reception and the efficient organization of the event, which underscores the depth of Algerian-Qatari ties.

Zitouni noted that Algerian-Qatari economic relations are experiencing a “qualitative leap” and that Algeria aims to double the volume of bilateral trade, which reached USD 80 million in 2023. This ambitious target is set to elevate the economic cooperation between the two countries significantly.

The first edition of the Algerian Product Exhibition in Doha features over 150 Algerian companies, showcasing a diverse range of high-quality goods. These include agro-industrial products, artisanal items, and industrial goods that are well-regarded in international markets. The exhibition, organized by “Tasdir,” a subsidiary of the Safex group, in collaboration with the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI) and the Qatari Chamber of Commerce, is expected to foster further trade opportunities between the two countries.

The forum and exhibition signal a strong commitment from both Algeria and Qatar to deepen their economic cooperation, opening new avenues for investment and trade that will benefit both economies in the long term.
