Algiers, Algeria | October 27th, 2024 — The recent Algerian Products Exhibition held in Doha from October 22 to 26 marked a milestone in Algerian-Qatari economic relations, with multiple cooperation agreements signed to strengthen partnerships between companies from both nations. According to a statement from the Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion, these agreements underscore Algeria’s commitment to expanding its reach in the Qatari market while enhancing bilateral trade and investment opportunities.

Among the agreements was a memorandum of understanding and trade agreement between Algeria’s Groupe Ferrovial and Qatar’s Shaheen Bin Mohammed Lahdan Al Mohannadi Group. Additionally, a memorandum was signed between DIVINDUS Group, a company specializing in furniture and joinery, and Qatar’s International Business Council. The pharmaceutical company IMGSA also concluded a cooperation agreement with the Mohammed Bin Mohammed Holding Group, a key player in Qatar’s healthcare sector.

Strong Impressions of Algerian Products

The exhibition, which featured more than 150 Algerian companies, received a positive response from the large number of visitors, who were particularly impressed by the high quality and diversity of Algerian products, ranging from food and clothing to handicrafts and heavy industry. Algerian Ambassador to Qatar, Salah Attia, presented awards at the closing ceremony, emphasizing the event’s success in establishing valuable business connections with Qatari stakeholders. Many attendees expressed a desire for a broader selection of Algerian goods in the Qatari market.

Opening Ceremony and Strengthened Trade Relations

The exhibition was officially inaugurated by Algeria’s Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, alongside Qatar’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Subaie. This initiative reflects the commitment of both nations to fostering a resilient and mutually beneficial economic partnership.

During his visit, Minister Zitouni highlighted the importance of such exhibitions in promoting Algerian products and facilitating business exchanges. The event, organized by “Tasdir” (a SAFEX subsidiary), in collaboration with the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI) and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce, also included an Algeria-Qatar Business Forum. As part of the official agenda, Zitouni toured the “Baladna” dairy factory in Doha, where he was briefed on its production technologies, market capacity, and its plans for an integrated dairy project in Algeria.

Further Engagements and Exploration of Free Zones

Minister Zitouni, accompanied by several high-ranking officials, including Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), and Charaf Eddine Amara, President of the National Union of Public Entrepreneurs (UNEP), also visited the Qatar Free Zones Authority. These discussions further exemplify Algeria’s intention to leverage Qatar’s expertise in free zone management, opening pathways for Algerian companies to explore growth opportunities in diverse sectors and engage in high-potential markets across the Gulf region.

The agreements and collaborative spirit witnessed at the Algerian Products Exhibition signify a promising new phase in Algeria-Qatar relations, positioning both countries to capitalize on each other’s strengths and pursue ambitious economic initiatives that reflect their shared vision for growth and regional integration.
