ALGIERS- The Ministry of Agriculture has signed a framework agreement with the Qatari company “Baladna” for the implementation of an integrated powdered milk production project in the Adrar province.
The agreement was signed by the Director-General of Agricultural Investment and Land at the Ministry, Souad Assous, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Baladna,” Mohamad Moutaz Al-Khayyat, in the presence of several ministers.
According to the statement, the agreement involves the implementation of a structuring project consisting of the creation of integrated dairy farms and powdered milk production through a partnership between the Qatari company “Baladna” and the Algerian state, represented by the National Investment Fund (FNI).
117,000 Hectares and $3.5 Billion Mobilized
With a total area of 117,000 hectares, this project consists of three poles, each containing a farm for cereal and fodder production, a dairy cattle farm, and a milk and meat production unit, as well as a powdered milk production factory.
Once realized, this project will enable the local production of 50% of Algeria’s powdered milk needs, supply the local market with red meat, and contribute to the increase in the national cattle herd.
This $3.5 billion project is expected to create 5,000 direct jobs. Numerous facilitations have been granted to this project, particularly in terms of land access, support, and financing, in addition to the benefits provided by Law 22-18 on investment.
