Algeria-Russia: MoU Signed for Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy

ALGIERS- The Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Russian company “Rosatom” have signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, the memorandum was signed on the sidelines of the 13th edition of the International Forum “ATOMEXPO,” held in the resort city of Sochi, Russian Federation, on March 25 and 26, 2024.

The memorandum includes a roadmap for joint cooperation activities between the two parties for the years 2024 and 2025. These activities encompass the use of nuclear applications in the healthcare sector, radiotherapy, research reactors, nuclear pharmaceutical preparations, and the training of scientific and technical personnel. Additionally, it involves the development of nuclear technologies and applications for peaceful purposes.

The Ministry specifies in its statement that this forum, held under the theme “Clean Energy: Creating the Future Together,” was opened by Mr. Alexei Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, Mr. Rafael Moreno Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Ms. Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of the World Nuclear Association.
