Moscow, Russia – The 11th session of the Algerian-Russian Joint Intergovernmental Committee for Cooperation, held in Moscow, witnessed significant developments in the field of agriculture. The meeting, chaired by the Algerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhadid Henni, in collaboration with his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Patrushev, marked a crucial step in expanding and diversifying cooperative efforts between the two nations.

According to an official statement from the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture, the newly signed agreements are designed to enhance and diversify cooperation areas, aligning with the priorities of both Algeria and Russia.
In his address during the session, Minister Henni emphasized the strong and friendly relations between the two countries. He regarded the meeting as an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, leading to remarkable prospects and the establishment of a platform for mutual coordination and consultation on various matters of shared interest, rooted in the values of freedom, peace, and justice.
Minister henni highlighted Algeria’s clear agricultural strategy, driven by the imperative of achieving food self-sufficiency, a matter of paramount importance for the nation’s leadership. The Algerian government has placed a high priority on ensuring food security through strategic planning and agricultural development.
This session took place following a bilateral summit between the presidents of Algeria and Russia, held during President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’ state visit to the Russian Federation in June. The summit marked the signing of a declaration of in-depth strategic partnership between the two countries, in addition to several other agreements, memorandums of understanding, and collaborative work programs.
Minister henni also referenced the preceding session of the Mixed Committee, hosted in Algeria in September 2022, where both parties identified priority areas for cooperation. Key focus areas include bolstering agricultural production and its profitability, with a specific emphasis on grains, seeds, and seedlings. Additionally, there is a shared commitment to safeguarding plant health, veterinary health, promoting plant genetic awareness, and advancing livestock breeding practices.
The session further pinpointed the importance of establishing direct connections between institutions and professional organizations within the agricultural sector. Encouraging exchanges between research institutes and universities, and harnessing advancements in scientific and technological research, were also identified as crucial aspects of collaboration.
The 11th session was attended by the Algerian Ambassador to Russia and a delegation of executives representing both nations. Notably, 49 experts from 15 ministerial sectors actively participated in the session, underscoring the dedication of Algeria and Russia to enhance their agricultural cooperation for mutual benefit. This significant development in bilateral relations is set to play a pivotal role in advancing agricultural practices and ensuring food security for both nations.
