Algiers, Algeria | May 31, 2024 — Algeria’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, held discussions with Zhang Ming, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), this Friday in Beijing, China. The meeting, part of Attaf’s working visit to China, explored potential avenues for developing institutional relations between Algeria and the SCO, as per a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Strengthening Institutional Ties
Attaf and Ming deliberated on strategies to enhance cooperation and forge robust institutional connections between Algeria and the SCO. This endeavor underscores Algeria’s strategic interest in deepening its engagement with major international organizations and broadening its diplomatic and economic partnerships.
Both parties exchanged insights on the latest global developments and the challenges confronting international organizations, especially in matters of peace and security. They stressed the imperative of concerted efforts to effectively address these challenges, highlighting the SCO’s pivotal role in promoting stability and collaboration within the region.
Follow-Up on President Tebboune’s State Visit
In addition to the meeting with the SCO Secretary-General, Minister Attaf held discussions with the Chinese Vice Minister of Finance. These deliberations aimed to review and advance the outcomes of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s state visit to China in July. During that visit, various bilateral agreements and initiatives were initiated to bolster Algeria-China relations.
