State Secretary Sofiane Chaib Emphasizes the Strategic Role of the Algerian Community Abroad in Advancing the Nation’s Healthcare Sector
Algiers, Algeria | February 18th, 2025 — In a high-level consultative meeting organized by the Consulate General of Algeria in Frankfurt, State Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, underscored Algeria’s unwavering commitment to engaging its diaspora in bolstering medical investment and transferring expertise to the homeland.
The meeting, held via videoconference, brought together representatives from the Algerian medical community in Germany, including Dr. Abderrahim Chenouf, and focused on the theme of “Medical Entrepreneurship in Algeria.” Discussions revolved around the available investment opportunities in the country’s healthcare sector and the most effective mechanisms to integrate Algerian professionals abroad into national development initiatives.
In his address, Chaib highlighted the paramount importance that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune places on empowering the Algerian diaspora to capitalize on investment prospects in their homeland. He reiterated that the government is actively encouraging national talents residing abroad to contribute meaningfully to Algeria’s socioeconomic progress, particularly in high-potential sectors such as the knowledge-based economy.
“The active participation of our highly skilled professionals abroad is not only a necessity but a strategic imperative,” Chaib stated. “The health sector stands as a pillar of Algeria’s social model, and leveraging the expertise of our diaspora is crucial to ensuring its advancement.”
The State Secretary further emphasized the indispensable role played by Algerian medical professionals in the international arena, stressing that their success stories and accumulated expertise should be harnessed to benefit the national healthcare system. By facilitating knowledge transfer and integrating advanced medical practices, Algeria seeks to elevate its healthcare standards, making them more efficient and globally competitive.
The meeting served as a platform to explore key areas for investment within Algeria’s medical sector. Chaib reaffirmed that the Algerian government is fully committed to facilitating initiatives that foster closer collaboration between medical professionals at home and abroad. To this end, authorities have established a range of mechanisms aimed at simplifying procedures and streamlining administrative processes for diaspora-led medical projects.
The State Secretary assured that Algeria is adopting an open-door policy towards innovative ideas and investment proposals in healthcare, particularly in medical infrastructure, specialized treatment centers, and research and development initiatives. He stressed that this initiative aligns with the broader vision of consolidating Algeria’s healthcare system while reinforcing its commitment to providing equitable and high-quality medical services to all citizens.
