Algeria, Slovenia Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation Across Key Sectors in Third Round of Political Consultations

Algiers, Algeria | January 16th, 2025 — On Thursday, the Secretary-General of Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounes Magramane, co-chaired the third round of political consultations between Algeria and Slovenia at the Ministry’s headquarters in Algiers. His Slovenian counterpart, Mr. Marko Štucin, participated in the discussions, marking another significant step in the deepening bilateral relationship between the two countries.

This meeting, as highlighted by a statement from Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided a critical opportunity to assess the current state of relations and explore avenues for further enhancing collaboration in various strategic sectors. Both sides agreed to focus on five primary areas of cooperation:

1. Energy and Mining: Strengthening bilateral collaboration in the energy sector, including joint ventures and technological advancements in sustainable mining practices.
2. Pharmaceutical Industry: Expanding partnerships in the pharmaceutical field, with an emphasis on the exchange of expertise and the development of joint production capabilities.
3. Higher Education and Scientific Research: Fostering academic exchanges, research collaborations, and the establishment of new educational programs that meet the evolving demands of both nations.
4. Artificial Intelligence (AI): Promoting the exchange of knowledge and the development of innovative AI technologies that serve the socio-economic needs of both Algeria and Slovenia.
5. Space Technologies: Deepening engagement in space exploration and satellite technologies, with the goal of advancing mutual interests in this cutting-edge field.

The discussions also reaffirmed the commitment to continue implementing the joint declaration signed by the foreign ministers of both countries in Ljubljana on August 30, 2024. This declaration serves as a roadmap for the future of Algeria-Slovenia relations and outlines the framework for continued cooperation across these key sectors.

Beyond bilateral issues, the two officials also exchanged views on regional and international matters of shared concern. The situation in the Middle East, the ongoing conflict over Western Sahara, and developments in the Sahel region were highlighted as key areas requiring closer diplomatic coordination. Both sides emphasized the importance of a unified approach to address these challenges in pursuit of peace, stability, and mutual security.
