Algeria, South Korea Strengthen Police Cooperation with New MoU

Algiers, Algeria | November 28th, 2024 — A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday in Algiers between Algeria’s Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), marking a new step in enhancing bilateral police cooperation.

The signing ceremony, held at the DGSN headquarters, was co-presided over by Ali Badaoui, Director General of the DGSN, and Ki-Jun You, Director General of KOICA. The event also saw the presence of the South Korean Ambassador to Algeria, Mr. You Ki-Jun, as well as senior DGSN officials.

The newly signed MoU aims to leverage South Korea’s extensive expertise in the fields of forensic science and technical police work, with a focus on improving the operational capabilities of Algeria’s specialized security services. The agreement will facilitate enhanced training and technology transfer, equipping Algeria’s law enforcement with the tools needed to tackle contemporary security threats and the ever-evolving nature of criminal activity.

In a statement, the DGSN emphasized that this collaboration would significantly strengthen the country’s criminal justice system, particularly in the areas of forensic investigation and criminalistics. The move comes at a time when Algeria is intensifying its efforts to combat increasingly sophisticated forms of crime and bolster its security infrastructure to keep pace with regional and global challenges.

The partnership with KOICA is poised to provide the DGSN with access to cutting-edge technologies and knowledge, positioning Algeria to further enhance its response to national security issues and to effectively address the complexities of modern-day crime.
