Algiers, April 8, 2024 – As the Eid Al-Fitr festivities approach, various public transport companies have initiated special programs to facilitate travel and ensure smooth mobility for citizens during the holiday period.
The National Maritime Passenger Transport Company (ENTMV) has mobilized three ships to accommodate Algerians residing abroad who wish to celebrate Eid in Algeria, in accordance with directives from the country’s authorities. A total of 1,294 passengers and 1,034 vehicles have been transported from Marseille to Algiers and Oran, as reported by ENTMV.
Similarly, the national airline, Air Algérie, has implemented a special program of international flights to Algeria from March 10 to April 13, 2024. This initiative, which aligns with the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has seen the sale of 47,791 tickets, with discounts of up to 50%.
Sogral, the Algerian Company for the Operation of Bus Stations, has devised a special Eid Al-Fitr program comprising 5,000 daily departures from various bus stations. This program extends from the last week of Ramadan to the second week after Eid Al-Fitr. Sogral has enlisted additional transport companies to double the number of departures and has allocated specific platforms for authorized transporters during Eid days. Additionally, hygiene, security, and maintenance staff have been doubled, and a round-the-clock service has been implemented at all bus stations.
In the capital city, the Public Establishment for Urban and Suburban Transport of Algiers (ETUSA) has introduced a special program to facilitate movement during Eid Al-Fitr. This program covers 186 bus lines with 189 buses on the first day of Eid, 263 buses on the second day, and 189 buses on the third day. Operating hours are from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM for day shifts and from 7:00 PM to 1:40 AM for night shifts, with an average frequency of 30 minutes between rotations.
ETUSA has also arranged transportation to Djamaâ El Djazaïr, with departures starting at 5:30 AM and returns after the Eid prayer from various stations. Additionally, shuttle services to cemeteries will be available from 7:00 AM to 1:40 PM from designated stations.
In the realm of rail transport, the National Railway Transport Company (SNTF) has devised a special program comprising 240 daily services, including 16 on main lines, 65 on regional lines, and 150 on suburban lines. SNTF aims to transport over 400,000 passengers during the last days of Ramadan and the first two days of Eid Al-Fitr. Operating hours are from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Furthermore, the Algiers Metro will operate from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM during Eid Al-Fitr, while the Algiers Tramway Company (SETRAM) will run services from Ruisseau to Dergana from 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM, with return services operating until 8:40 PM.
