Algiers, Algeria | February 8th, 2025 — In a landmark move to consolidate Algeria’s role as a driving force behind Africa’s industrial and energy transformation, the Algerian Electrical Industrial Cluster (CIEL) organized a high-level strategic meeting in Dakar, Senegal. The gathering, aimed at deepening industrial and energy integration across the continent, brought together key stakeholders, industry leaders, and financial institutions to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation and sustainable development.

According to a statement released by CIEL on Saturday, February 8, 2025, the event was presided over by Djilani Kobibi Bachir, President of CIEL, and was attended by representatives of the African Confederation of Electricity (CAFELEC), leading Senegalese and international companies, as well as the Director of the Algerian Bank of Senegal (ABS).

Forging Strong Alliances for Africa’s Energy Future

The meeting witnessed the participation of prominent global and regional players, including Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation solutions; Senegalese engineering powerhouse Groupe COSELEC, renowned for its electrical and public lighting projects; renewable energy firm ENERGECO-Afrique; and infrastructure solutions provider EREPCO-SARL.

Speaking at the event, Djilani Kobibi Bachir emphasized Algeria’s strategic vision for Africa’s energy and industrial development. “As an emerging industrial power in Africa, Algeria is committed to strengthening intra-African energy and industrial integration by supporting strategic enterprises, fostering technology transfer, and advancing self-sufficiency in energy production,” he asserted.

Kobibi further underscored Algeria’s pivotal role in fortifying electrical infrastructure and expanding renewable energy projects across the continent. He noted that Algerian companies possess the expertise necessary to reduce Africa’s dependence on energy imports and establish a foundation for a sustainable, autonomous energy sector.

A Holistic Approach to Industrial and Human Capital Development

Beyond technological advancements, Algeria is also prioritizing capacity-building initiatives. “Algeria is showcasing its expertise in professional training programs to enhance the skills of African professionals in energy and industrial sectors,” Kobibi added, highlighting the country’s commitment to equipping the next generation of African engineers and technicians with cutting-edge knowledge.

The meeting’s agenda also encompassed strategies for reinforcing Algerian-Senegalese cooperation, expanding business partnerships, and leveraging technical collaboration to accelerate sustainable energy projects. Key areas of discussion included:

  • Joint investment in solar energy projects to bolster Africa’s renewable energy transition.
  • Modernization of electrical infrastructure to enhance grid efficiency and reliability.
  • Support for training programs and workforce capacity building to optimize human resources in the energy sector.
  • Technology exchange and digital transformation in electrical manufacturing and grid management.

CIEL, a pivotal player in Algeria’s industrial landscape, brings together over 160 manufacturers, 13 specialized laboratories, 65 execution firms, 59 technical consultancy offices, and approximately 6,500 companies specializing in electrical works. With a firm commitment to diversifying Algeria’s non-hydrocarbon exports, CIEL continues to spearhead initiatives that position Algeria as a cornerstone of Africa’s industrial renaissance.
