Algiers, August 3, 2023 – The 5th session of the joint commission of Algerian-Tanzanian cooperation, held in Algiers from July 30 to August 01, concluded on Tuesday evening with the signing of eight crucial agreements between the two nations. The closing ceremony, graced by the presence of Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, and Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Stergomena Tax, marked a significant step towards reinforcing bilateral relations.

The agreements signed comprised six memoranda of understanding and two framework agreements. As per a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these collaborative pacts aim to foster cooperation in various key sectors of mutual interest.

The first memorandum of understanding focuses on trade, aiming to enhance economic relations and promote the exchange of goods and services between Algeria and Tanzania. This initiative is expected to open new avenues for trade and investment opportunities, benefitting both nations’ economies.

The second memorandum of understanding centers on energy collaboration, addressing the growing energy demands of both countries. By sharing expertise and technology, they aim to develop sustainable energy solutions, explore renewable energy sources, and strengthen energy security.

The third memorandum of understanding targets higher education, facilitating academic cooperation and student exchanges between Algerian and Tanzanian universities. This will contribute to the enrichment of educational experiences for students and promote cross-cultural understanding.

In an effort to preserve their historical and cultural heritage, the fourth memorandum of understanding focuses on archiving. Both nations will collaborate to preserve and digitize historical documents and records, ensuring their accessibility for future generations.

The fifth memorandum of understanding emphasizes the arts, encouraging cultural exchanges, and promoting the appreciation of each other’s artistic expressions. This will create a platform for artists and performers from both countries to showcase their talent and create lasting cultural bonds.

Lastly, the sixth memorandum of understanding aims to enhance diplomatic training and capacity-building, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices in the field of diplomacy. This exchange will lead to a better understanding of international affairs and strengthen diplomatic relations between Algeria and Tanzania on the global stage.

The two framework agreements encompass areas of mutual interest for both nations, and their signing marks a commitment to work together on projects related to agriculture and healthcare in order to promote sustainable development and improve the welfare of their respective populations.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister Ahmed Attaf stated, “These agreements reflect our mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation and friendship between Algeria and Tanzania. Together, we can harness the potential of our partnership and pave the way for a prosperous future.”

Minister Stergomena Tax echoed similar sentiments, expressing her optimism for the future collaboration, saying, “Our shared values and vision for development have brought us closer. Through these agreements, we will build a strong foundation for growth and progress.”

The successful conclusion of the 5th session of the joint commission of Algerian-Tanzanian cooperation marks a turning point in the relations between the two nations.
