Algiers, Algeria | September 17th, 2024 — Abdelmadjid Tebboune, re-elected as President of the Republic, took the presidential oath on Tuesday during an official ceremony at the Palace of the Nations in Algiers, attended by high-ranking state officials and representatives of national institutions.
According to Article 89 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic “takes the oath before the people, in the presence of all national institutions, within the week following his election. He assumes office immediately after his swearing-in.”
The oath itself, outlined in Article 90, underscores the president’s commitment to uphold the foundational values of the nation:
“Faithful to the supreme sacrifices and the sacred memory of our martyrs, as well as to the eternal ideals of the November Revolution, I swear by Almighty Allah to respect and honor the Islamic religion, to defend the Constitution, to ensure the continuity of the State, to provide the necessary conditions for the normal functioning of institutions and the constitutional order, to work for the reinforcement of the democratic process, to respect the free will of the people, the institutions, and the laws of the Republic, to preserve the integrity of the national territory, the unity of the people and the Nation, to protect the freedoms and fundamental rights of man and citizen, to tirelessly work for the development and prosperity of the people, and to strive with all my strength for the realization of the great ideals of justice, freedom, and peace in the world. Allah is witness to this.”
This solemn pledge binds the president to uphold the fundamental principles of governance, unity, and peace, ensuring continuity and dedication to the progress of Algeria.
