Algeria Thwarts Attempts to Smuggle Over 13 Quintals of Treated Hashish from Morocco

ALGIERS- Algeria successfully foiled attempts to smuggle over 13 quintals of treated Hashish across its borders with Morocco. The operations were carried out by combined detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP) in coordination with various security services from December 13 to 19, according to an operational report released by the Ministry of National Defense.
The report highlighted the ANP’s ongoing efforts in counterterrorism and combating various forms of organized crime. As part of the fight against terrorism, ANP detachments arrested eight individuals supporting terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory.
Continuing the relentless efforts against drug trafficking, combined ANP detachments intercepted 113 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 13 quintals and 51 kilograms of treated Hashish from the borders with Morocco. Additionally, 162,819 psychotropic tablets were seized.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and Djanet, ANP detachments arrested 31 individuals and confiscated 13 vehicles, 66 generators, 30 jackhammers, 3 metal detectors, as well as explosives, detonation tools, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.
Furthermore, 33 individuals were intercepted, and 2 Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, 7 shotguns, 3 automatic pistols, 24,016 liters of fuel, 4 tons of smuggled and speculated foodstuffs, 11 quintals of tobacco, and 12,698 units of various beverages were seized in separate operations across the country.
In addition to these actions, combined ANP detachments apprehended 351 undocumented immigrants of various nationalities throughout the national territory.
