ALGIERS- During a working and inspection visit to the El Bayadh province, the Minister of Hydraulics, Mr. Taha Derbal, discussed the ongoing projects to establish new seawater desalination stations.

According to Minister Derbal, five seawater desalination stations currently under construction in several coastal provinces will be completed and operational before the end of 2024.

These stations include “Fouka 2” in Tipaza province, Cap Djinet in Boumerdès province, Cap Blanc in Oran province, Koudiet Draouche in El Tarf province, and Tighremt in Béjaïa province.

“The work is progressing well, utilizing a shift system for the construction of these five stations, overseen by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, while the Ministry of Hydraulics is responsible for connecting them to the potable water distribution networks,” stated Minister Derbal. He continued, “The projects will be completed within the set deadlines by the end of this year.”

Additionally, the minister emphasized that the water produced by these five stations is intended for consumption and will benefit the respective provinces where they are located, as well as inland provinces situated up to 150 km from the coastline.
