ALGIERS- The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, asserted on Sunday in Addis Ababa that Algeria would strive, during its tenure at the helm of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), to promote dialogue and consultation among all stakeholders to develop solutions conducive to strengthening peace and security on the continent.
In an address on the report of the APRM Heads of State and Government Forum, Mr. Attaf conveyed “fraternal greetings from the President of the Republic, who is deeply grateful for the valuable trust placed in him by his brothers to lead the APRM for the next two years, in a regional context where challenges arise that require wise and far-sighted interaction, as well as firm and rigorous action.”
Attaf affirmed, “The decline of democratic values against the backdrop of the dangerous wave of unconstitutional changes of governments, particularly in West Africa, justifies the need for mechanisms like ours and attests to the far-sighted vision that led to their creation.”
“This mechanism has undeniably proven its indispensable nature and effectiveness and has undoubtedly contributed to strengthening the principles of good governance in our continent,” he asserted.
Attaf emphasized that “Algeria will dedicate its mandate to encourage and intensify dialogue, consultation, and coordination among all stakeholders to crystallize African solutions to African problems,” through “solutions arising from the African reality and fully taking into account the external environment surrounding us, while enhancing peace, security, and political stability and promoting economic development and common prosperity in our continent.”
