Algiers, Algeria | December 4th, 2024 — In a significant move to bolster bilateral ties, Algeria’s Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Sifi Ghrieb, hosted Tunisia’s Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdel Hafidh, on Thursday at the Ministry of Industry in Algiers. The meeting underscored the mutual commitment of the two neighboring nations to elevate their partnership across industrial and pharmaceutical sectors, reflecting the enduring rapport between Presidents Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Kais Saïed.
The high-level discussions revolved around evaluating existing collaborations and identifying new opportunities in key sectors such as textiles and leather, pharmaceuticals, food industries—particularly natural oils—automotive spare parts manufacturing, and certification processes. These domains were recognized as potential pillars for forging a strategic alliance between Algerian and Tunisian enterprises.
To formalize and streamline this cooperation, Minister Ghrieb proposed the establishment of a joint Task Force. This body would be entrusted with developing a clear roadmap, pinpointing opportunities for collaboration across public and private sectors, and fostering economic development in border regions. Emphasis was placed on crafting strategies to enhance joint export initiatives, particularly targeting African markets, a region rich with untapped potential for both countries.
Minister Abdel Hafidh expressed Tunisia’s determination to deepen its economic complementarity with Algeria. He called for intensified coordination between the investment agencies of both nations, advocating for greater cross-border industrial integration. His vision included encouraging Algerian enterprises to establish operations in Tunisia and vice versa, thereby promoting a balanced exchange of expertise and resources.
This meeting marks a decisive step toward transforming Algerian-Tunisian economic relations into a model of regional cooperation. With shared ambitions to drive industrial growth and regional integration, both nations aim to set a precedent for collaborative development in the Maghreb region.
