Algiers- Algeria, May 9, 2024 – A memorandum of understanding was signed on Wednesday in Ankara, Turkey, between the Civil Aviation Authorities of Algeria and Turkey to increase the number of weekly flights from 35 to 80 for each party, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The memorandum was signed at the conclusion of the 12th session of the Algeria-Turkey Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, co-chaired by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and the Turkish Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Ozdemir. The current session was marked by the participation of several sectors, “reflecting the intense sectoral cooperation between Algeria and Turkey and the importance both countries place on its promotion and expansion,” the statement indicated, adding that the session was conducted in a “positive atmosphere, reflecting the excellent relations between the two countries and their willingness to enhance cooperation in various fields.”
The occasion also provided an opportunity to review the state and prospects of multi-sectoral bilateral cooperation, by evaluating the level of commitment achieved since the last session of the Joint Commission held in Algeria in November 2021, and examining ways to strengthen and diversify bilateral cooperation.
The proceedings of this Commission take place within a context marked by an exceptional dynamic characterizing bilateral cooperation at all levels, supported by the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty signed between the two countries in May 2006, following high-level bilateral visits, including the visit of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Turkey, and that of the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to Algeria. These visits aimed to strengthen and deepen the common bilateral ties in various fields, fostering a genuine diversified partnership based on a win-win approach.
