Algeria, Turkey Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation in Energy and Mining

Algiers- Algeria, May 9, 2024 –  The Vice-President of the Republic of Turkey, Cevdet Yilmaz, met with the Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, on the sidelines of the 12th session of the Algerian-Turkish Joint Governmental Committee. The meeting, attended by the Algerian Ambassador to Turkey, highlighted the commitment of both countries to deepen and broaden their cooperation across various sectors.

Enhancing Investment Opportunities

Vice-President Yilmaz stressed the importance of expanding consultations and identifying opportunities to boost investments and partnerships between Algeria and Turkey, particularly in energy and mining. The discussions also revolved around potential investments and collaborations in industry, pharmaceuticals, transportation, information technology, agriculture, irrigation, and public works.

Both sides emphasized the need to enhance cooperation in fuel production, petrochemical industry development, electricity generation and distribution, renewable energy, and other related areas for knowledge sharing. They also explored opportunities for investment and partnership in Algeria’s mining sector, focusing on research, exploration, and the production of mineral resources and rare metals.

The meeting also addressed regional and international issues of mutual concern. Vice-President Yilmaz commended Algeria’s efforts, particularly as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, in supporting the Palestinian cause and advocating for full UN membership for the State of Palestine.

The discussions between Vice-President Yilmaz and Minister Arkab underscore the ongoing commitment of Algeria and Turkey to strengthen their economic ties and explore new avenues of cooperation.
