Algiers, Algeria | July 25th, 2024 — On Tuesday, the National Agency for the Promotion and Rationalization of Energy Use (APRUE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Algeria formalized a cooperation agreement. This strategic accord is designed to catalyze efforts to improve energy efficiency and foster innovation, marking a significant step towards a sustainable energy transition in Algeria.
The agreement was signed by Merouane Chabane, Director General of APRUE, and Francesca Nardini, Acting Resident Representative of UNDP in Algeria. The event saw notable attendance from key figures including representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Energy and Mines. The partnership is set to focus on a range of critical areas: driving innovation and entrepreneurship in energy efficiency, supporting regulatory reforms in the housing sector, advancing the adoption of green hydrogen as a sustainable energy alternative, and promoting clean and sustainable mobility solutions.
In her remarks, Nardini commended Algeria’s dedication to developing a robust and sustainable energy model. She underscored the importance of energy transition as a cornerstone for sustainable national development. This ambitious initiative reflects the concerted efforts of APRUE, UNDP Algeria, and the UNDP Climate and Energy Transition Centre, and aligns with Algeria’s energy policy objectives. The agreement not only exemplifies a shared commitment to a greener future but also highlights the pivotal role of international collaboration in achieving these sustainable development goals.
