Algeria-Venezuela: Opportunities for Gas, Technological Cooperation Tackled

ALGIERS- During his visit to Venezuela as a special envoy of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held discussions with his Venezuelan counterpart, Pedro Rafael Tellechea, who is also the CEO of the Venezuelan Oil Company (PDVSA).

During this meeting, the two parties reviewed the state of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, as well as ways to strengthen and develop it, particularly in the fields of research, hydrocarbon exploration and production, petrochemicals, and energy maintenance.

It was also an opportunity for both parties to examine business opportunities in the fields of gas and technology, as well as other aspects of cooperation related to training and experience exchange between Sonatrach and PDVSA.

The two ministers also explored common commercial opportunities in the gas sector, its use as a transitional fuel to reduce environmental impact, and its utilization as a raw material in the petrochemical industry.

In a statement, PDVSA indicated that officials had assessed “the wide range of cooperation opportunities to develop joint projects” and “strengthen cooperation and fraternity relations.” “We had the honor of meeting with the Minister of Energy and Mines of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Mohamed Arkab, with whom we are assessing the wide range of cooperation opportunities to develop joint projects in the gas, technology, and training fields,” stated the CEO of PDVSA on his social media account “X” (formerly Twitter).

The two ministers also reviewed preparations for the seventh Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), scheduled from February 29th to March 2nd in Algiers.
