Algeria Venture, Roche Algeria Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Support Healthcare Startups

ALGIERS- Algeria Venture, the public startup accelerator, and the Swiss company specialized in diagnostics and biotechnology, Roche Algeria, signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday in Algiers. The agreement aims to support Algerian startups operating in the healthcare and medical technology sectors.
Sid Ali Zerrouki, the CEO of Algeria Venture, and Khalil Kadaoui, the CEO of Roche Algeria, signed the memorandum in the presence of Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises.
The partnership between the two entities seeks to provide support and guidance to startups in the healthcare sector by granting them access to resources, expertise, and networks necessary for their growth. This collaboration aims to accelerate the development and adoption of innovative solutions proposed by Algerian startups, thereby improving patient care and healthcare delivery in Algeria.
In his remarks, Minister Oualid emphasized that the cooperation between Algeria Venture and “one of the giants in biotechnology worldwide” falls within the framework of open innovation, creating new pathways for bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Switzerland. He also highlighted the government’s efforts to support innovation and entrepreneurship, especially as outlined in the 2024 budget law.
Mr. Zerrouki underscored the significance of the memorandum, reaffirming Algeria Venture’s commitment to supporting Algerian startups and innovative projects, thereby enhancing the national entrepreneurial ecosystem.
According to Mr. Zerrouki, out of the forty domains in which startups and entrepreneurs operate in Algeria, ten relate to medical technologies, the focus of this agreement.
Roche Algeria’s CEO stated that the memorandum will enable selected Algerian startups to address national and global healthcare challenges identified by Roche. He emphasized that the partnership aims to support startups in implementing their ideas to meet the needs of patients, particularly in therapeutic areas where Roche has expertise, such as oncology, certain rare diseases, and soon ophthalmology.
Roche Algeria will act as a catalyst for startups with solutions, providing them with financial support or networking opportunities with Roche experts in Algeria and abroad.
The collaboration between Algeria Venture and Roche Algeria represents a significant step towards fostering innovation and driving positive change in the Algerian healthcare sector.
