Algiers, Algeria | May 17, 2024 —  A delegation from the Vietnamese Communist Party visited the headquarters of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution (AIARA) in Algiers on Thursday. The delegation was led by Lai Xuan Mon, a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party and Permanent Vice-Chairman of the Central Commission for Communication and Education, accompanied by the Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria, Tran Quoc Khanh.

They were received by Noureddine Djoudi, AIARA President, veteran freedom fighter, and former diplomat. This visit, intended as a gesture of goodwill, aimed to establish the foundation for future cooperation with AIARA. A significant highlight of the visit was the inauguration of a commemorative plaque for a tree planted in honor of General Vo Nguyen Giap, a celebrated hero of Vietnamese independence and a longstanding friend of Algeria.

During the meeting, discussions between the Vietnamese delegation and AIARA members centered on the historical relations between Algeria and Vietnam, particularly emphasizing the profound friendship between former Algerian President Houari Boumediene and General Giap. Djoudi underscored the uniqueness of the Algeria-Vietnam relationship, rooted in their mutual struggles for independence. He noted, “The ties between Algeria and Vietnam are very special due to a shared struggle,” highlighting Vietnam as a symbol of a people’s resilience against a formidable power. Djoudi further emphasized the strong bond between Algeria and Vietnam, recalling General Giap’s frequent visits to Algeria. He explained that the deep-rooted connections between the two countries inspired AIARA to honor the Vietnamese delegation, recognizing Vietnam as “a country that shares the same values and principles as Algeria.”

The visit celebrated not only the historical camaraderie between Algeria and Vietnam but also highlighted the potential for future collaborative initiatives between AIARA and Vietnamese institutions. This encounter stands as a testament to the enduring solidarity and mutual respect between the two nations, deeply rooted in their shared histories of resistance and quest for independence.
