ALGIERS- Algeria has welcomed the adoption, by the United Nations Security Council, of a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan.
Speaking on Saturday on behalf of the A3 group (Algeria, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and Guyana), Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Amar Bendjama, praised the adoption of this resolution, emphasizing that it is a significant step that will pave the way for a peaceful and stable Sudan.
“The A3+ expresses its gratitude to the United Kingdom for its consistent efforts despite the time constraints during the negotiation process. We believe that this resolution will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the well-being of the Sudanese population,” Mr. Bendjama said in a statement relayed by APS.
“Today marks an important step that will pave the way for a peaceful and stable Sudan, thanks to the adoption by the Security Council of this same resolution calling for a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan,” he continued.
He further specified, “This decisive action reflects a collective commitment to promoting peace and stability in the country during this sacred period. Therefore, we hope that Sudanese actors will seize this opportunity to lay down their arms and create an atmosphere conducive to dialogue, improved humanitarian access, and cessation of hostilities, in order to collectively move forward on a path towards a peaceful future,” Mr. Bendjama concluded.
