Algerian Ambassador in Brazil Commemorates Independence Day with Diverse Celebration, Film Screening

Algiers, Algeria | July 13th, 2024 — The newly appointed Algerian Ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Abdelaziz Benali Cherif, hosted a commemorative event at “Cine Brasilia” on July 11th, marking Algeria’s 62nd Youth and Independence Day, coinciding with the historic date of July 5th.

The evening began with a screening of “The Battle of Algiers,” a seminal film by Gillo Pontecorvo from 1966 that vividly portrays Algeria’s struggle for independence. This choice set a poignant tone for the festivities that followed.

Ambassador Abdelaziz Benali Cherif highlighted July 5th as a pivotal moment in Algerian history, symbolizing the end of 132 years of French colonial rule. He paid tribute to the immense sacrifices of millions of Algerians who valiantly fought for their nation’s freedom, emphasizing the enduring significance of this historic day.
